We are launched… my Friday countdown blog from from ND where it is extremely warm and muggy.
There is concern for weather conditions on Saturday. Two well-placed University sources shared ND’s concern for “Game Management” if lightening becomes an issue and stadium evacuation is required. It is possible that game-time kickoff temperatures will be 92 degrees and will drop 30 degrees quickly by halftime. Such a situation with rain in the forecast could result in lightening. The University has enlisted the services of experts to assist with recommendations.
I returned to Armando’s to accompany a recent ND grad for his maiden haircut, as my treat. Young Sean Bennett was thrilled for “my best haircut ever.” Armando gave him a lollipo when he jumped down from the chair. The parade of players the past two days for their game-cuts has been non-stop with athletes like Cierre Wood, TJ Jones, Braxton Cave, Stephon Tuitt and Manti Te’o. The boys will be coiffed and ready to go!
Lots of activity away from Armando’s, too…Dayne Crist signing and posing for families in front of the Morris Inn… former ND star and NFL player Kyle Rudolph returning to The Gug for a visit…’66 National Championship QB Terry Hanratty at Starbucks (his son is a freshman player).
A real treat was the arrival of the “Tailgate Beer Fairy” to my garage–with a special delivery of 50 cases of beer by the President of Indiana Beer–Pat Flynn. (And no…this quantity better not be just for USF!)
I reciprocated by jumping into the truck to help Pat make a delivery to neighbor Mike Golic–brother of ND classmate and All-American Bob Golic. Mike is also a Dillon Hall “Big Red” alumnus.
TAILGATE BEER FAIRY
Initial beer supply is ready to be chilled
The season-opening Pep Rally will be in front of Dillon Hall tonight…not the Thursday night tradition of our era–but it should be very well-attended and festive. Perhaps the Dillon upperclassmen will have the cahones to lead the crowd in the “Dillon Fight Song”!
Out for now.
